Subaru SDS ( Subaru Diagnostic System )

Subaru SDS ( Subaru Diagnostic System )

Subaru Diagnostic System (SDS)

Systems Overview:
>>Subaru currently provides the Subaru Select Monitor II (SSMII) in the dealerships for vehicle diagnosis.
>> All other service applications are loaded on a local desktop PC in the dealership, or are available online.

>>With the current Select Monitor II in process of being phased out, the next generation diagnostic application, the Subaru Select Monitor III (SSMIII) will be introduced.
>>Subaru is therefore launching the "Subaru Diagnostic System (SDS)".
>>The SDS will be a required essential diagnostic tool for all Subaru Dealerships and will be launching in the 1st quarter of 2005.

>>SSMIII, Subaru vehicle diagnostic software will be a PC based application, which will communicate with the vehicle via a "Subaru Diagnostic Interface" (SDI), allowing the technician to read parameter data.
>>The SDS will be the complete Diagnostic and Service Information System based on a Wireless PC platform.

>>In addition to the SSMIII, SDS will allow technicians access to various applications, which will aid them in their diagnosis.
>>Icons residing on a Graphical User Interface (GUI) located on the PC will mark the applications.

GUI Applications include the following:

>>Subaru Select Monitor III (SMIII)

>>Image Loader (for use with the NSM)
>>Flash Write (for ECM reprogramming)
>>Subaru Technical Information Systems (STIS)
>>Subaru Learning Management System (future SLMS)
>>Subaru.Com (for Internet Exploring)
>>Vehicle Claim History
>>Quality Monitoring Report
>>Vehicle Coverage Inquiry
>>Vehicle Inquiry
>>Electronic Parts Catalog (future EPC)
>>Subaru Special Tools Catalog

SDS consists of 3 aspects:
>> Required Internet Broadband Connection and Managed Firewall Service in all dealerships.
>> The minimum internet connection speed required for the SDS program is 384kb/second.
>> Fixed IP addresses are an additional requirement. If the existing service meets these two requirements, upgraded broadband service will not be required.
>>This will help achieve the following key objectives:
>>Enable the technicians to have secure access to all online service information in a continuous and expedited manner.
>>Enable Subaru to keep the diagnostic tools up-to-date at all times and ensure that technicians have the most current information for all diagnostic procedures, including ECM reprogramming files.
>>Enable centralized management of SDS for remote support and system updates.
>>Provide SDS with protection from the public Internet, managed access to Subaru's online service applications and isolation from the Dealer Local Area Network (LAN).
>>A broadband internet connection (if required) and managed firewall shall be installed in the dealership on a lease basis, as part of the Managed Broadband Solution.

>>Wireless Network at all dealerships - this will enable technicians to have access to all the service information/applications at the 'point-of-need'. It will allow technicians more mobility,
>>and they will be able to refer to service information anywhere within the service area.

>>Laptop Computer with SDS Graphical User Interface (GUI) - This will provide the technicians with a state-of-the-art graphical interface and touch screen enabled diagnostic tool.
>> It will provide vehicle data-stream information and service information at a single platform.
>>The laptop will have a user friendly graphical user interface for easy access to all the applications on the diagnostic tool.
>>The SSMIII PC software, Flashwrite, and Image Loader will be part of the applications suite for complete diagnostics capability using the current Select Monitor or new SSMIII.
